IIT Placements: Lowest salaries received by students in top IITs since 2019, check data here
IIT PLACEMENTS 2024: Placement plays a vital role in IIT or any other institutions for admission. Admission to IITs is based on JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced. The recent report suggested that the Indian Institution of Management has fallen to 4 lakhs due to the global economic situation. While IITS are expecting high salary packages in crores in the top IITS, the average salary package used to be 25 to 28 per annum.
Lowest IT Salaries:
Due to global market expansion, IITs are getting lower salary packages than before since many of them are graduating and studying, making the recruitment process easier, decreasing job demand, and resulting in minimal salary packages.
Here is the list of the lowest salaries received in the top IIT institutes :
IIT Madras:
IIT Madras is ranked first by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 under the engineering category. The average salary of graduates has fallen from 41.72 per annum to 6 lakh per annum over one year.
IIT Delhi :
IIT Delhi is ranked second by the National Institutional Ranking Framework ( NIRF)2024 under the engineering category. Reports from the IIT Delhi summer Internship placements 2023 suggest that the highest stipend was 4 lakh per month, and the average stipend was 2.63 lakh per month, which has decreased to as low as 10 lakh per annum.
IIT Bombay :
IIT Bombay is ranked third by the National Institutional Ranking Framework ( NIRF)2024 under the engineering category. During the placement drive 2023, only 22 persons were offered a salary of 1 crore plus. Three members were domestic candidates and 19 members were at international locations.
Additionally, Other graduates' offers dropped to 4 lakh per annum, with seven graduates being offered a salary package of 4 lakh per annum.
A student at IIT Bombay said,
" The Companies that, until last year, hired 5 to 8 students are now hiring only 1 or 2 this year. Several are still not hired yet. From coaching classes to start-ups, some have recently been hired for salary packages of Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 in phase 2.”
IIT Kanpur :
IIT Kanpur is ranked fourth by the National Institutional Ranking Framework ( NIRF)2024 under the engineering category. In 2023, 989 offers, including 22 International offers, were received. Currently, the average salary is at 7lakh per annum.
IIT Kharagpur:
IIT Kharagpur is ranked fifth by the National Institutional Ranking Framework ( NIRF)2024 under the engineering category. In the 2023 placement,700 offers were secured, including Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs). Only 121 profiles were offered, which includes 19 international offers. A one crore CTC was offered to six members.
IIT Guwahati:
IIT Guwahati has been facing the lowest salary packages for the past five years at INR 7 lakh per annum.

Due to the negative impact, IITs have decided not to publicly release any person's salary packages, recognizing that it would affect students' mental health. This approach aims to maintain a balanced environment where the focus remains on skill development rather than salary comparisons.
