What is CBSE?

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the central body that regulates all the procedures in the educational field. It is a national-level educational board. Board exams for 10th and 12th standards in India are conducted by CBSE. It is responsible for issuing mark sheets for the same. All the educational policies and guidelines in India are formed by CBSE.

The CBSE was established by the government of India in the year 1929, to encourage cooperation and integration between states in secondary education.

Its original name was the Board of High School and Intermediate Education.

The constitution of the Board was amended in 1952 to give its present name, the Central Board of Secondary Education.

The current chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is Rahul Singh, a senior IAS officer.

More than 25,000 schools in India and 26 other countries are affiliated with CBSE. These include Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, private independent schools, and government schools. Regional offices in different parts of India have been established for more active and efficient management.

CBSE's motto is ‘Asato ma Sad gamaya’ (???? ?? ??????), a Sanskrit shloka which when translated means, ‘O God! Please lead me towards truth from untruth’. Its key objectives include providing the students with a hassle-free, outcome-based, and all-inclusive learning experience.

To stimulate schools to reflect, review, assess and create their institutions as learning organizations that are continuously growing and evolving on their developmental continuum, is another objective of the Board.
