MBBS is the abbreviation used for the undergraduate course Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery. This medical program is for 5.5-year (4.5 years degree + 1 year internship) duration in India. This undergraduate program provides training for students to conduct diagnoses, find treatments and medicines, and perform surgeries. The five-and-a-half course includes coursework, clinical rotations and practical experience.

Eligibility criteria for MBBS in India

Candidates attempting to take undergraduate medical courses have to satisfy certain criterias such as:

  1. Educational qualification: candidates must have passed class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with physics, chemistry and biology/biotechnology as core subjects with 50% aggregate marks, 40% aggregate for reserved categories from recognised boards.
  2. Age limit: candidates minimum be 17 years or will be by the time of admissions. The maximum age must not exceed 25 years for general category and 30years for reserved category.
  3. Neet score: the candidate has to qualify NEET-UG(National eligibility-cum-entrance) test.
  4. Nationality: Only Indian citizens are eligible for the entrance.

Documents required for MBBS in India

The documents which are mandatory for Mbbs are:

  1. NEET admit card.
  2. NEET Scorecard.
  3. Candidate id proof(aadhaar card/PAN/Driving license/passport)
  4. Candidate 10th and 12th certificate.
  5. Fee receipts(Registration fee/Security deposit fee/ college fee if paid)
  6. 8 passport-size photos.
  7. SC/ST/OBC caste certificate if applicable.
  8. PWD certificate if applicable.
  9. The allotment letter issued by MCC/a competent state authority.

MBBS Admission Process in India

The admission process for the Bachelor of Medicine course are sequentially listed below:

  1. The first criteria for medical course admission is to qualify for the NEET exam conducted by National Agency Test(NTA). 
  2. After qualifying the entrance exam, choose your region in which you prefer to study.
  3. As the results are announced, register for counseling via mcc.nic.in by filling in their NEET roll number,registration number,name, date of birth.
  4. After the registration process, get your documents verified through online or offline mode. In offline mode documents are verified by the authorities in the allocated counseling centers.
  5. Documents are verified in online mode by uploading the necessary documents via given websites.
  6. Attend two rounds of online counseling.
  7. Lock the colleges you want to study in decreasing order, if you're ok with allotted colleges in the first round of counseling, complete the payment and secure a seat. If not, attend the second round and still not find your preference to attend the Mop-up round.
  8. After MOP up round the left over seats are transferred to the management who then conducts the counseling online for those seats.
  9. After securing seats in the counseling, complete the payment process.
